Last Monday the City Council unanimously passed the City’s 2003-2004 Budget after having to reduce our expenditures by over $60 million. We received the Mayor’s proposed budget on September twenty-third and by state law we have to pass a balanced budget by December first.

Urban Politics #112: Special Events Taskforce Report

As Chair of the Culture Arts and Parks Committee I strongly support the Taskforce’s recommendations to better fund the Special Events Committee and streamline the City’s assistance efforts. Their report clearly stated that “special events help build a sense of belonging and community pride…” and that the “City of Seattle nurture and support events that build our community.”

Urban Politics #51: How Much Money Do We Have?

November 18th, 1998

The City Government had a total budget of approx. $1.93 billion in 1998. The new proposed budget for 1999 would be $2.04 billion. But three-quarter of these funds is outside of the general fund. They are flow-through funds from other jurisdictions like the State and the Federal Government or are from our City owned utilities, with revenues that cannot be commingled with our general funds.
