A lot of attention has been given to the Council’s recent passage of the Downtown rezone legislation which encourages the development of taller denser buildings in the city’s core, additional affordable housing units and a more livable downtown. There is another, more obscure but important, part of this legislation that I’ll tell you about here.


Urban Politics #111: Getting Public Toilets

Yesterday the City Council passed a resolution essentially giving the contract for establishing 5 public toilets toa company that did not present the most competitive proposal. I believe the process that led us to this situation was flawed. Consequently in good conscious I could not vote for the legislation despite having been a long time advocate for public toilets.
